Metamorphisis Animation

For this project we worked on our animation skills by using at least two different types of animation to have our main character physically change from one form to another. The minimum requirement for this project is two types of animation plus your character has to transform into something different from what they already are.

We used three types of animation, which were stop motion, claymation, and digital animation. This was one more animation type than the requirements of this project. We used mostly digital animation for the effects that it was sable to perform. Our story was about two stick figures so drawings of stick figures was the most effective way to do most of the video parts.

Words of Wisdom

Our project called elder words of wisdom which was an interview with an elder that taught us something we didn't know or a taught us a moral. We interviewed Jessica Ivan who had the message to be practical and follow your dreams at the same time. This advice can really help you in life if you are planning your future ahead of you. Jessica helped us learn to make good choices with her words of wisdom.

If we were to make something better about his video we would make the sequences better. In some of the three shot sequences we did not have all three shots. It would have been better if all of them were complete. There was also some very long shots of interview that could have been broken up by B-Roll to make it more visually interesting.

Five Tips For Detailed Nail Art.

In this video we decided to do five tips for how to accomplish detailed nail art. We were practicing sequencing with our three shot sequences and our interesting angles. Our video was entered in a class competition between the other groups and us. If you won the competition then your video would be entered to be streamed on a Hawaii broadcast channel on TV. We chose nail art because it is something our whole group enjoyed doing and understood. We suggested using different everyday tools for certain techniques. We also showed the process of how we did the techniques and did a step by step process. Although we were happy with our final product of this project I think we could have reshot some of our shots and done a better job displaying the tips.

Practice Profile Story

We did a practice story that prepared us for our Elder Words of Wisdom project by interviewing our friend Imani about her plans for the future. We questioned her about her career plan along with her college plan. Her thoughts were very well organized and she said exactly what she was going to do if she could. She stated that she was going to go to a college in New York or Los Angelas where she would take performing arts programs to prepare for her auditions for movies and TV shows.

Composition Tecniques

Composition techniques are visually interesting shots that display images in different ways. There are four main composition techniques: rule of thirds, leading lines, unusual angles, and framing. Rule of thirds is where the subject is located in a frame on the thirds of the shots.  There are other less used composition techniques that include emotion, action, and repetition in shape. Composition techniques are commonly used in three shot sequences to prevent jump cuts and make the shots more interesting. Three shot sequences can be used in videos or photographs.

Profile Project Process

In GT we are interviewing Cambria's mom, Jessica, about nursing as a career. We shot B-roll at the hospital and the interview in an office space. We chose Jessica because she is very involved in her career and she cares and enjoys what she does as a living.

Shooting B-roll was a difficult task because we had to get lower shots that the tripod was not capable of reaching. So we had to come up with other solutions. We shot our B-roll a second time with better shots and no camera movement, it was very successful. With our new B-roll our video seems very complete.

To Edit this we used the Final Cut Pro. Program which is a professional editing system. We applied voice overs and cut imperfections in the interview. Our rough cut was completed this week which still needed a lot of editing and reshooting. We will complete our project by the due date which was extended an extra day which gives us plenty of time to do what we need to like editing our b-roll and replacing voiceovers.

Three Shot Sequences

In our current project in GT we are practicing three shot sequencing. Three shot sequencing is a sequence of short shots that show an action in a more interesting way then a regular shot. Three shot sequencing starts with a wide shot that displays the beginning of an action. The next shot is a medium shot that is timed so that the action from the first shot is continued smoothly into this one. The last shot is a close up or an extreme close up that is timed to run smoothly like the transition between the first and second to make the shift run smoothly. The three step transition is a way to make a longer shot shorter and more visually interesting. These are examples of shots that are well sequenced.

To improve your three shot sequence it just takes a lot of practice. The sequencing needs professional shots and awesome visuals. Your angles need to be interesting and satisfying. You also need to time your actions perfectly so that it smoothly transition into your next sequencing shot. This website explains how to improve three shot sequencing in detail.
